Diabetes Management Made Simple & Sustainable
Expert nutrition guidance to help you manage blood sugar while enjoying food and life.
RECOGNITION AND VALIDATION
Does this sound familiar?
If you have received a diagnosis of type 1, type 2 or gestational diabetes, and have been encouraged to follow a “diabetic diet” that feels confusing, overly restrictive and inconsistent with the way that you currently eat and how you actually live, we can help.
Our nutrition counseling aims at complimenting the medical care you already have, it does not replace it.
While diabetic diagnoses need to be taken seriously, food does not have to feel overwhelmingly tightly controlled, and you can be spared of a philosophy that focuses only on what foods to avoid.
Scope, plainly
What is Diabetic Care?
Diabetes management involves understanding how food affects your blood sugar and developing eating patterns that support stable glucose levels while maintaining quality of life.
Whether you have Type 1, Type 2, or gestational diabetes, proper nutrition is a cornerstone of effective management. We help you navigate the complexities of carbohydrate counting, meal timing, and blood sugar management without sacrificing food enjoyment.
How we help
We’ll review your current management approach, eating patterns, and blood sugar logs to identify opportunities for improvement. You’ll learn practical strategies for meal planning, carbohydrate estimation, and managing blood sugar in various situations. We provide ongoing support to help you adjust your approach as your needs change and build confidence in managing your diabetes independently.
OUR APPROACH TO DIABETIC CARE
How we work
We believe diabetes management should enhance, not restrict, your life.
Our approach focuses on practical, evidence-based strategies that work in real-world situations. We emphasize pattern recognition, flexible meal planning, and building skills that allow you to eat confidently in any situation.
We work closely with your medical team to ensure your nutrition plan supports your overall diabetes management goals.

- Learn effective carbohydrate counting and portion estimation
- Create flexible eating patterns that fit your lifestyle
- Prevent or manage diabetes-related complications
- Maintain enjoyment in eating while supporting your health

Who you will work with
Care starts with a conversation with Rebecca Appleman, RD, our practice founder and executive director. She is the first point of contact for every person that reaches out to us; she completes every discovery call and supervises the clinical work of the team as a whole. Alongside her is a small team of registered dietitians with focused clinical interests, which often guide the clinical match for the client. The practice uses a tiered system of individual and group supervision to maintain clinical excellence.
Our clinicians are introduced on our team page, which details each dietitian’s clinical focus.
What to expect
How a first conversation works
Rebecca personally speaks with each new client to carefully guide best next steps and scheduling.
Connect with Rebecca & Schedule
You and Rebecca will discuss what is on your mind related to food and body, and Rebecca will determine the dietitian on our team best suited to guide you in meeting your needs. Appointment options are provided and fees are explained.
Begin Care
You have your full Nutrition Consultation, virtually or in person. This is the visit that creates a foundation for your work with us. Follow-up sessions are scheduled as indicated and in coordination with you.
How payment works
We are a private-pay practice. Clients are billed monthly, during the first week of the month, for all services provided during the previous month. We do not bill insurance or submit claims for you, however, we provide a detailed receipt (superbill) with procedure and diagnostic coding so you can seek reimbursement on your own if your plan has out-of-network nutrition benefits. Fees are discussed on the discovery call and a fee schedule is also included in our paperwork in your client portal.
Questions we can answer now
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to follow a special diabetic diet?
There’s no single “diabetic diet.” We help you develop an eating pattern that works for your body, preferences, and lifestyle while supporting blood sugar management.
Can I still eat carbohydrates if I have diabetes?
Absolutely. Carbohydrates are an important part of a balanced diet. We teach you how to include them strategically and manage their impact on your blood sugar.
How often should I check my blood sugar?
Blood sugar monitoring frequency varies by individual and type of diabetes. We help you understand patterns and use your data to optimize your eating choices.
Will I need to take insulin or medication forever?
Medication needs depend on your type of diabetes and individual factors. We work with your medical team to support your overall treatment plan through nutrition.
