Nutrition Care for Teens Navigating Food, Body, and Growth

Specialized support for the eating, body image, and growth concerns that so often surface in adolescence, for teens and the families who love them.

RECOGNITION AND VALIDATION

Does this sound familiar?

Adolescence brings rapid physical change at the same time as new pressures around food, appearance, and independence. Many families come to us when something has shifted and they are not sure how worried to be.

Your teen has started skipping meals, cutting out food groups, or eating very differently from the rest of the family.

Talk about calories, “clean eating,” or changing their body comes up more than it used to.

A sport or activity has increased your teen’s energy needs, and you are not sure they are keeping up.

Social media seems to be shaping what your teen believes about food and their body.

Meals and food choices have become a source of tension at home.

Your teen wants to take ownership of their nutrition and would benefit from guidance in doing it well.

These experiences are common, and noticing them early matters. Reaching out does not require a diagnosis, or certainty that something is wrong.

Scope, plainly

What is adolescent nutrition care?

Adolescent nutrition care addresses the eating, growth, and body image concerns of the teenage years. That includes fueling a changing body and athletic demands, irregular or restrictive eating, early signs of disordered eating, body image distress, and conditions such as PCOS, digestive issues, or diabetes that call for nutritional support.

Teens are developing their own relationship with food at the same time they are gaining independence, so we work directly with the teen while keeping parents appropriately involved. The aim is a teen who understands their body’s needs and feels confident and capable around food, with a family that knows how to support them.

Who you will work with

Care starts with a conversation with Rebecca Appleman, RD, our practice founder and executive director. She is the first point of contact for every person that reaches out to us; she completes every discovery call and supervises the clinical work of the team as a whole. Alongside her is a small team of registered dietitians with focused clinical interests, which often guide the clinical match for the client. The practice uses a tiered system of individual and group supervision to maintain clinical excellence.

Our clinicians are introduced on our team page, which details each dietitian’s clinical focus.

3

Begin Care

You have your full Nutrition Consultation, virtually or in person. This is the visit that creates a foundation for your work with us. Follow-up sessions are scheduled as indicated and in coordination with you.

How payment works

We are a private-pay practice. Clients are billed monthly, during the first week of the month, for all services provided during the previous month. We do not bill insurance or submit claims for you, however, we provide a detailed receipt (superbill) with procedure and diagnostic coding so you can seek reimbursement on your own if your plan has out-of-network nutrition benefits. Fees are discussed on the discovery call and a fee schedule is also included in our paperwork in your client portal.
