Afrodite (Fiorella) DiCarlo is a Registered Dietitian who brings a uniquely therapeutic approach to nutrition counseling, blending clinical expertise with deep psychological understanding.

With over a decade of experience at Appleman Nutrition, she specializes in creating transformative healing experiences for clients struggling with eating disorders, weight concerns, and the complex emotional relationships we form with food. Fiorella's approach recognizes that lasting change happens when we address not just what we eat, but why we eat—uncovering and healing the underlying patterns that keep us stuck.

Her therapeutic philosophy centers on understanding food as more than nourishment, recognizing how it becomes intertwined with our emotions, relationships, and deepest coping mechanisms. Fiorella excels at helping clients break free from restrictive diet mentalities and develop sustainable, joyful relationships with food that honor both their physical and emotional needs. For clients using GLP-1 medications, she provides comprehensive support that goes beyond weight loss to include metabolic health and nutritional optimization, ensuring that their journey is both effective and nourishing.

With a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Food Science and advanced post-graduate training from both the Women's Therapy Institute and the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis & Psychology, Fiorella brings a rare combination of nutritional science and therapeutic insight to her practice. Her specialized training through the EDCAS program has equipped her with sophisticated tools for treating eating disorders, while her psychoanalytic background allows her to address the deeper emotional patterns that often drive disordered eating behaviors.

Outside the clinical setting, Fiorella's passion for food extends into cultural exploration and creativity. She finds joy in cooking, traveling, and creating videos that celebrate food culture around the world—pursuits that reflect her belief that food should be a source of pleasure, connection, and cultural richness rather than anxiety or restriction. This personal relationship with food's joyful possibilities informs her therapeutic work, helping clients rediscover the pleasure and satisfaction that comes with intuitive, mindful eating.

  • Fiorella's dual expertise in nutrition science and psychoanalytic theory allows her to address both the physiological and psychological aspects of eating disorders, creating comprehensive treatment plans that heal from the inside out.

  • She specializes in supporting clients through significant life transitions, including menopause and pregnancy, understanding how hormonal changes and life stage shifts can impact our relationship with food and body.

  • Fiorella's holistic, non-diet approach empowers clients to move beyond restrictive eating patterns toward sustainable lifestyle changes that support both emotional well-being and physical health.

"I believe in working through underlying issues that cause food to be used as a coping mechanism. My goal is to provide a curated, customized approach that is holistic without a diet mentality—helping clients develop a truly nourishing relationship with food that serves their whole self."
